Blues Awards


Waikato Diocesan Sports Blues Awards Criteria


Blues Committee

SENIOR SPORTS BLUES

Candidates for the award of a Sports Blue must have proven to be role models in their sport. In addition to this they must have:

  1. Consistently displayed outstanding ability, commitment to their chosen sporting activity;

  2. Shown outstanding sportsmanship as outlined in the Fairplay Charter;

  3. Be in year 11, 12 or 13

  4. Must be a member of a school team that participates in inter schools competitions

  5. Students must meet the following criteria as it relates to their sport


Athletics, Cross Country, Cycling, Diving, Golf, Triathlon/Duathlon, Swimming, Gymsports, Sailing

1st in the WBOP Individual Event for their Sport

1st in the NISS Individual Relay/Team Event for their Sport

Top 3 in the NISS Individual Event for their Sport
Top 3 in the NZSS Relay/Team Event for their Sport
Top 5 in the NZSS Individual Event for their Sport


Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Netball, Touch, Water Polo, Volleyball,

The Student must have at least gained Regional A representative honours.
Or their School Team came top 3 at NZSS Event (at the top Tournament)

The results of representative tournaments will be taken into consideration when determining Blues Awards.


Canoe Polo, Cricket, Cheerleading, Inline Hockey, Tennis, Squash
The Student must have at least gained Provincial A representative honours or played in a regional team that won the National or International Tournament.
Or their School Team came top 3 at NZSS Event (at the Top Tournament)

The results of representative tournaments will be taken into consideration when determining Blues Awards.


Rowing

Winning an A Final at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships or placing in the top three in an A Final excluding novice events at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships.

Equestrian

Member of the Waikato Team or another Regional Team in the National Pony Club Championships

Or placed in the top three in the North Island Secondary Schools Individual Equestrian Events

Or won an individual event at the WBOP Schools ODE, Show Jumping or Dressage Competitions.  

Or team wins the NISS Event


Skiing/Snowboarding
1st at the WBOP Champs

Top 3 at the NISS Event


All School Sports
Selected for National Representation or compete on a New Zealand National Team


The Blues Committee considers all nominations in relation to each individual sport, to the standard and level of competition within the sport and criteria for qualifying and competing in the representative squads.  Players who receive a Blues Award are clearly recognised as ‘top’ in their sport.  Blues Awards will be presented at the Sports Awards Dinner each Year. Year 13 Blues recipients will also be awarded the Senior Sports Shield


Junior Blues

These have the same criteria as for the senior sports blues. Junior Blues are awarded to students in Years 9 and 10 only.
