Sports News and Results


Grace Ritchie (now Year 13) came second in the Senior Girls’ 4km Road Race at the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Athletics Championships in December 2016. She also achieved a Personal Best in the 3000m race.

Canoe Polo
Madison Daly and Dana Kent competed at the Quarry Canoe Polo competition in Auckland in early January, their team 'The Tron' placed 2nd in their grade!

In-Line Hockey
Congratulations to Tuhi Hopa-Thomson who has been selected to represent New Zealand in the Junior Women's Inline Hockey team as goalie in the Oceania competition in April against Australia. 

The 2017 New Zealand Secondary Schools Open Water Swimming Championships were held in Taupo on 14th-15th of January.
Dio finished 2nd out of 26 schools in the overall points for girls' schools. We would particularly like to congratulate Hannah Knighton and Sarah Miller on gaining podium results.  Hannah gained a silver in the 1km and a bronze in the 2.5km 16-18 year old girls age group.
Sarah Miller won gold in the 1km in the 14-15 year old girls age group.

Congratulations to Ali Wilshier (Year 13) on her selection in the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Netball Squad. In addition, Ali has also been named as one of the ten players in the Waikato Bay of Plenty Beko Netball League team. Well done Ali and we look forward to watching you play!


At our recent rowing regattas, Dio had some very promising results. Congratulations to all those who competed.

  • Girls u17 coxed four placed 3rd - Olivia Fellows-Ford, Kate Monkley, Brooke Walden, Meg Walden and Meg Scrimgeour (Cox)
  • Girls u15 coxed four placed 2nd - Teagan Knight, Jessica Horrigan, Sophie Reeves, Mia Coventry and Pippa Wilson (Cox)
  • Girls u15 coxed four placed 3rd - Ava Dunn, Lucy Fullerton-Smith, Freya Sirl, Sophie Fullerton-Smith and Charlotte Grey (Cox)
  • Girls u18 coxed four placed 1st - Olivia Fellows-Ford, Olivia Morgan, Kate Monkley,  Brooke Walden and Meg Scrimgeour (Cox)
  • Girls u16 coxed Quad sculls placed 3rd - Georgia Clapcott, Rosanna Bedford, Meg Walden, Abby Payne and Arabella Mitchell (Cox)

North Island Club Championships

  • Women's Novice coxed four won a silver medal - Georgia Kimpton, Katie Mackenzie, Daan Bolder, Sarah Martin and Meg Scrimgeour (Cox)
  • Women's Novice coxed four won a bronze medal - Teagan Knight, Jessica Horrigan, Sophie Reeves, Mia Coventry and Arabella Mitchell (Cox)
  • Women's Novice coxed eight won a gold medal - Ava Dunn, Sarah Martin, Georgia Kimpton, Katie Mackenzie, Freya Sirl, Sophie Reeves, Mia Coventry, Lucy Fullerton-Smith and Charlotte Grey (Cox)
  • Women's Club Pair won a gold medal - Olivia Morgan and Holly Mills

Table Tennis

Ngarangi Mason (Year 10) has been selected as part of the u15 New Zealand National Squad for Table Tennis.

Touch Rugby

Congratulations to Tiāna Thompson (Year 12) who recently won gold with her team the Waikato u18 Girls' Representative Touch team at a tournament played in Counties Manukau recently. This team are now the u18 Girls National Touch Champions!
