Waikato Dio's Barbershop chorus "Espresso" have once again taken out 1st Place in the Waikato/BOP Regional competition of Young Women in Harmony held Monday 15 June at Activate Church.
74 members of Espresso, under the direction of Lynn Jamieson, performed their package of a Harry Potter themed "Come Fly with Me", and "For Good" from the musical Wicked. They head to the National competition which this year is in Hamilton at Founders Theatre in September, and will perform their package at this years House Singing for everyone to see.
Dio also had the largest contingent of quartets entered in the competition and came away with some awards.
COCO (Rilee Birss, Phoebe Clewlow-Gibson, Morgan Cashmore, and Katie Garvey) who were dazzling in purple, received 3rd place which qualifies them for Nationals.
Chocolatte (Mikaela Varcoe, Billie Douglas, Sarah Dela Rue, and Ari McAlley) received the Most Improved Quartet award.

Machiatto (Katherine Blow, Matiria Moleni, Caitlin Ryan, and Jasmine Stewart), Quasimodo (Olivia Bailey, Madisyn-Reed Barnsdall, Phoebe Bedford, and Sarah van den Hurk), and Pumpkin Spice (Brighid Marshall, Sophie McAllister, Rachel Shaskey, and Sarah van den Hurk).
