The Year 11 Drama Class are performing Passengers by Fiona Farrell for their 2015 NCEA assessed production on Tuesday 9 June and Wednesday 10 June.
Passengers was written by one of New Zealand’s leading playwrights, Fiona Farrell. It is set in the 1860s, on board an immigrant ship transporting 19 working class women, aged between 12 and 21, from England to New Zealand in search of a better life. This is a story of their journey during the 130 days at sea. Created from actual records of the time, this play gives an insight into the extreme conditions on board the ship and into the challenges these immigrants would have faced during their quest for a new beginning in a foreign land.
Both performances start at 7pm, in the Drama room in Piki Mahuta Centre with entry by gold coin donation.
