Budding Dio entrepreneurs have taken first and second place at the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme Regional Awards held last night. Team SOS (Survival Out of School) comprising of Annabel Nesdale, Emily Clapcott,  Shekinah Blaikie, Alex McLennan, Chelsea Lin, and Devon Bree was awarded the Sales and Marketing award and the top award of Regional Company of the Year. Their Survive Out of School (SOS) App provides relevant information to help students navigate the big wide world outside school. It includes sections such as budgeting and finance, food and nutrition, and flatting and renting. The free App is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The team now heads off to Wellington to participate in the National Awards on 6 December.

Also winning on the night was Chloe Saxton from Team Tihi Hipi, who was awarded the Leadership Award. Her team comprising of Kun-ka Leger, Emma Barker and Lucy Oliver was also awarded Runner-up Regional Company of the Year for their locally-made sheep’s cheese.

The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) is an experiential programme where secondary school students set up and run a real business. Each YES company creates their own product or service and brings this to market.
