Dio Homestay Families Needed for visiting Japanese students

During the course of the school year, Waikato Diocesan is fortunate to have the opportunity to host a number of school students from Japan. We are also fortunate to have a longstanding relationship with Toshimagoaka High School, Tokyo. A group of Toshimagoaka students have been coming to Dio for a two-week visit for the past 26 years and, over this time, many Dio families have had the opportunity to host these students and form lifelong friendships with their ‘Japanese sisters’. Some Dio students have even travelled to Japan and stayed with their Japanese sister.

This year, Toshimagoaka will again be bringing a group of students for their annual two-week visit in August. And for the first time, Dio has five students coming as ‘short term international students’ for a 12 week stay during Term 2.

These visits, be they short or long, provide our students and whole school community with some wonderful opportunities to ‘get connected’ with students from another part of the world. In order to host them successfully, we are dependent on the hospitality of our school families. In 2015, we need 28 Dio families to become involved in hosting our visiting Japanese students.

We are currently looking for Homestay families for the following two groups of students in 2015:
  • In term 2 we have FIVE Japanese students from Toshimagoaka High School arriving in Hamilton on 31st May for a 12 week stay(includes the 2 week holiday at the end of term 2). They depart Hamilton on 21st August. Accommodation is required for 12 weeks with Dio homestay families. These students will be attending classes at Dio in Year 11.
  • In Term 3 we have TWENTY THREE students from Toshimagoaka High School arriving in Hamilton on Wednesday 29th July. They depart Hamilton on Tuesday 11th August. They will be attending Dio each day for English classes and extra-curricular activities.
*Homestay families are paid a weekly allowance to contribute towards the costs of hosting a student, for the 12 week stay it is $240 per week, for the two-week visit it is a lump sum of $455.00.

If you are interested in either of the hosting opportunities listed above, please complete the relevant Homestay Family Reply Forms by clicking on the links below. Completed forms should be returned to the marked box in Cherrington Reception by Thursday 1st April 2015.

If you have any further queries relating to the 12 week Homestay, please contact Dean of International Students, Katie Williams: kwilliams@waikatodiocesan.school.nz

If you have any further queries relating to the short two-week Homestay, please contact Felicity Johl: fjohl@waikatodiocesan.school.nz
