During the course of the school year, Waikato Diocesan is fortunate to have the opportunity to host a number of school students from Japan. We are also fortunate to have a longstanding relationship with Toshimagoaka High School, Tokyo. A group of Toshimagoaka students have been coming to Dio for a two-week visit for the past 26 years and, over this time, many Dio families have had the opportunity to host these students and form lifelong friendships with their ‘Japanese sisters’. Some Dio students have even travelled to Japan and stayed with their Japanese sister.
This year, Toshimagoaka will again be bringing a group of students for their annual two-week visit in August. And for the first time, Dio has five students coming as ‘short term international students’ for a 12 week stay during Term 2.
These visits, be they short or long, provide our students and whole school community with some wonderful opportunities to ‘get connected’ with students from another part of the world. In order to host them successfully, we are dependent on the hospitality of our school families. In 2015, we need 28 Dio families to become involved in hosting our visiting Japanese students.
We are currently looking for Homestay families for the following two groups of students in 2015:
