Waikato Diocesan School's auditioned choir, who featured on the front page of the Hamilton Press this week, have been invited to be a part of the Australian Music Festival at the Sydney Opera House in July.

The 37-strong touring party, musically directed by Mrs Maria Colvin, will give a 20-minute performance, which will include a Maori action song and a Enya cover.

This is the first time Dio has sent a choir to the Festival and the group have already met for some intensive workshops.

In its 27th year, the Australian Music Festival attracts upwards of 1000 musicians in choral, wind, brass, orchestral ensembles from Australasia, Europe, Asia and the United States. The students will get to perform and rehearse in iconic performance spaces such as the Sydney Opera House, St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney Town Hall and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

The touring group has a number of fundraisers planned including an 'Autumn Chorus' concert in the All Saints Chapel on the 3 April (tickets are $10.00 and are available at the school shop), and a sweets and treats stall at the intervals of Dio's upcoming production of GODSPELL (12,13,14 April).

The group are also looking for corporate sponsors for members of the touring party. If you would like to support our girls, please contact Dio mum, Ali Mallett on 021 909 981 or email
